Yale Platinum Ultra Keys Have Entered The Market: Here's What You Need To Know

If you cut Yale Platinum keys, there’s a new variation you should know about.
The new Yale Platinum Ultra cylinder has started appearing in the market, bringing an important change to the key design. While Yale continues to use the standard Z12B key blank for this new cylinder system, the dimple positions on the Platinum Ultra version differ from those found on the Platinum key.
What's Changed?
The dimple positions on the Platinum Ultra sit slightly closer to the tip of the key than on the original Platinum design. As a result, the track appears longer, even though the overall key remains the same.
The change affects the spacing of the cuts rather than the key blank itself, so it's important that you identify which version you're working with before duplicating a key. At first glance, the two keys look very similar, but using the wrong spacing could lead to an inaccurate copy.
The Key Blank Remains the Same
Unlike profile changes that require new blanks, the Yale Platinum Ultra continues to use the Z12B blank. This means you can continue using the original Z12B blank or Silca YA107R you already have.
The pin codes use the same letters across both systems, which could easily cause confusion when cutting keys without decoding.
Key Cutting Data
We have been informed that key machine manufacturers are working on new data cards, which are expected to be available to you through the next machine software updates. In the meantime, the only option you have to duplicate your customer's blank is to decode the original.
